Four GMod/Wiremod Quaternion based flight systems.

Half_life_2_logoOne of the few things better than having wiremod quaternion based flight systems is having lots of them.
Here are a few including the Expression 2 code and advdupe files. Win.

All of these vehicles are a seat mounted on a giant E2 chip. They’re based on roughly the same code, so you can mix and match bits to your liking 🙂 The Adv Dupe and Expression2 downloads are at the bottom of the page.

Note: Due to a small bug in Wiremod, you'll have to re-upload the chip to get them functional. (Choose the Expression2 tool, right click the chip, and hit upload).

Wall climbing GMan hoverbike – “The GBike”:

Blurb:

Though technically a hoverbike set to hover about a foot off the ground, it’s possible to build up some height with this beasty by aiming up.

Controls:

W+S – Inverted pitch controls (up/down)
A+D – Yaw controls (left / right)
Space – Go
Shift – Hover on the spot and enable wall climbing.

While holding space, the bike will tilt to whatever’s under it. E.g. Going downhill, it’ll tilt down.
While holding shift (i.e. shift+space) the whole thing will tilt and stick to the surface closest to the bottom. So going up a ramp to a wall for example will take you up a wall.

Code comments:

Fairly straightforward here… The chip will aim to hover 50 units above the ground, and cancel out its own inertia until the controls are pressed. There’s an invisible chip surrounding gman’s torso, and an invisible pod controller to the left of the seat… re-color them to make them visible again.

This is the easiest to fly of the two flight chips as it has a sense of ‘down’ and can easily be steered left and right. As such, it’s subject to gimbal lock, but for a simple plane it gets the job done nicely.

Controls:

W+S – Inverted pitch
Shift – Hover
Space – Go
A+D – Yaw
Scroll wheel – Roll

This one flies more like a real plane, in that there’s no real ‘down’ and you can loop & roll to your heart’s content. Turning left for example is accomplished by rolling left, pitching up, then rolling back.
There’s no gimbal lock, but it takes some getting used to.

Controls:

W+S – Inverted pitch
Shift – Hover
Space – Go
A+D – Roll
Scroll wheel – Seekrit yaw controls.

This one’s a bit of a mix of the other 3. Like the hoverbike it will pin itsself to a wall, but like the second plane chip, there’s no ‘down’. By casting a second tracer out the front, and driving headlong into a wall, it’ll pin itsself against that wall, allowing you to drive on it. There’s even a third tracer at an angle allowing it to detect when you’re transferring from a horizontal to vertical surface. E.g. From a house roof down a side wall. Once stuck to a new surface, you might find yourself at a slightly different angle, but that’s more work than I inded to to fixing it =)

Controls:

8+5 – Forwards\Back
4+6 – Turn.

Installation:

Point explorer over at:
 C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\<yourname>\garrysmod\garrysmod\data\
Copy in the folders from the zip file, and allow it to merge.
